Embrace the Mistakes

Hello! I'm Heather Martinson, founder of Celebration Education, where we inspire creativity, which leads to endless possibilities. Today, I am excited to share with you the snippets of an adventure our class had a few years ago, where we dove deep into the nuances of craftsmanship and shed light on the significance of making mistakes.

Crafting Our Journey

That week, our focus was on craftsmanship. We explored various crafts, from decorating shields inspired by ancient traditions to creating signs for guilds that were reminiscent of the Middle Ages. Our students were fully immersed in a multitude of activities – from assembling small posters highlighting key concepts, devising business plans for their crafts, to gluing and nailing wooden pieces together to form a new creation.

Our activities spanned a wide spectrum, including math and logic exercises where students calculated potential earnings as craftsmen, to collaborative efforts in creating guilds. It was inspiring to see their creativity blossom as they navigated through each task, demonstrating ingenuity and a keen eye for detail.

The Value of Making Mistakes

In our journey, we highlighted the essential role of mistakes in the learning process. Mistakes are often viewed negatively, but we aimed to change this perception. In our classes, we emphasized that making mistakes is not only inevitable but also a valuable part of growth. Each error is an opportunity to learn, adapt, and evolve.

Our students were encouraged to embrace their mistakes, analyze them, and use them as stepping stones towards mastery. This approach helped in fostering a positive and supportive environment, where students felt comfortable to express themselves, take risks, and push their boundaries.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, we will continue to emphasize the importance of creativity, craftsmanship, and, most importantly, the value of making mistakes. Our journey is far from over, and we are excited about the adventures that lie ahead.
