In this class a famous artist, technique and style will be covered in depth. For instance we may first study Claude Monet and the Impressionist movement in art, and take a look at his techniques and works. In doing so we will play games, create a timeline, make an entry in sketchbook, do exercises and then paint in Impressionist style with real art materials. Next class we may study Escher and draw up our own tessellation, reproduce it with cut stencils and ink, and look at the math skills needed to produce some of Escher’s work. This is an excellent intro to art history, a great way to hone art techniques and skills, a chance to begin developing a voice and an opportunity to take in great masters by collaborating with others and really making art!
